Assessment
Assessment is undertaken across clinic, home, education, or workplace environments, depending on the individual’s needs. For adults, this may include functional assessment within real-world contexts such as employment or community settings.

A combination of standardised tools and detailed clinical observation is used, alongside developmental and psychosocial history. Assessment is tailored to the individual and presented in a structured but supportive manner.
Areas of specialist practice include:
  • Autism across the lifespan
  • Acquired neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke
  • Cognitive-communication disorders (e.g. executive functioning, social communication, discourse)
  • Speech, language, and interaction differences in both children and adults

Report
A comprehensive report is provided following assessment. This outlines the individual’s communication profile, including strengths and areas of difference, and offers clear, practical recommendations.

Reports are designed to be clinically robust while remaining accessible to families, educators, employers, and multidisciplinary teams. Where appropriate, they align with diagnostic frameworks (e.g. DSM-5) and medico-legal requirements.

Consultation
Consultation is available to families, schools, employers, and multidisciplinary teams. This includes:
  • Interpretation of assessment findings
  • Strategy development and implementation
  • Ongoing case formulation and problem-solving

Consistency across environments is prioritised, with a focus on functional, real-world outcomes.
Remote consultation (e.g. video or telephone) can be arranged where required, particularly for individuals based outside Jersey.

Autism Assessment and Diagnosis
In line with NICE guidance, autism assessment is conducted within a multidisciplinary framework.
I contribute specialist speech and language assessment using gold-standard tools, including:
  • ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule)
  • ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised)

Assessments are available for both children and adults and form part of a comprehensive diagnostic process. See here for more details.

Neurorehabilitation (TBI and Stroke)
I have significant experience in working with individuals with acquired brain injury, including traumatic brain injury and stroke. Intervention focuses on:
  • Cognitive-communication difficulties (e.g. attention, memory, executive functioning)
  • Social communication and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Language and communication changes following stroke (e.g. aphasia)
  • Emotional regulation and behavioural presentation as it relates to communication
  • Functional rehabilitation within home, vocational, and community settings
Work is typically integrated within a wider multidisciplinary team, including case management, neuropsychology, and occupational therapy.

Capacity and Safeguarding (MDT Practice)
I work within multidisciplinary teams in relation to capacity assessment and complex safeguarding decision-making. This includes:
  • Contribution to formal capacity assessments in line with Jersey’s Capacity and Self-Determination framework
  • Application of the functional and diagnostic tests of capacity within real-world contexts
  • Supporting communication to maximise an individual’s ability to participate in decision-making
  • Involvement in best-interests processes where capacity is lacking
  • Clinical input into Significant Restriction of Liberty (SROL) arrangements, including proportionality, least restrictive practice, and ongoing review
This work is grounded in a rights-based approach, balancing autonomy with risk and ensuring that communication needs are fully considered within legal and ethical decision-making.

Medico-Legal
I accept instructions from case managers and solicitors in relation to both assessment and treatment within medico-legal contexts for children and adults.

This includes:
  • Expert assessment and reporting
  • Rehabilitation-focused intervention
  • Contribution to multidisciplinary reports and court processes

All instructions are subject to standard conflict of interest checks.

Training
I provide training to professionals across health, education, and care sectors. Areas include:
  • Autism and neurodiversity
  • Learning disabilities
  • Communication following brain injury (including TBI and stroke)
  • Social communication and interaction
  • Capacity assessment and communication within legal frameworks (including SROL)
  • Supporting individuals with complex communication needs

Training can be tailored to the needs of the organisation, with a focus on practical application and implementation.
