We offer a comprehensive autism diagnostic service for both children and adults in Jersey and the Channel Islands through our Island Autism Clinic. We acknowledge that there may be some anxiety associated with this process, so we always endeavour to create a relaxed, friendly and informal atmosphere throughout the assessment.
Benefits of choosing us
We have a combined experience of over 30 years in the assessment and diagnosis of autism and social communication disorders.
We work in line with NICE guidance (National Institute for Clinical Excellence), which insists on a multi-agency approach to establish diagnosis – this ensures that any diagnosis is accepted by other agencies and valid for court purposes should this information be requested.
Our team consists of a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and a Clinical Psychologist. When required, we can offer a sensory assessment via our Specialist Occupational Therapist. If additional medical information is necessary to inform the diagnosis, we can also arrange for a paediatrician to contribute to the assessment.
We use the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale) and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview), which are regarded widely as the gold standard assessment tools for autism.
We have close links with both public and private education and healthcare providers, which enables us to give appropriate advice and signposting to ensure the necessary follow-up and support is given after the assessment.
